What Moquehue is like
A village in northern Neuquén, ringed by mountains and araucarias, with the beautiful Lake Moquehue.

What you can do here
Summer, December to March
Days that go on forever and the whole village up and running. On the lake: kayaking, stand-up paddle and guided boat trips, plus fishing in season. On land there's horse riding, mountain biking, a canopy tour and trails, with a guide or on your own. The beach is a three-minute drive. It's also when we fill up fastest, especially the first half of January.
Book for the summerWinter, July to September
Snow, the stove lit and a village that's almost empty. The snow park on Batea Mahuida, run by the Puel community, opens from July to the end of September: it's the closest place to ski, and small and family-friendly enough for a first time on snow.
Ask about winterThe two trails
There are two self-guided trails:
- The Chenqueco waterfall
- The fire lookout
The village
There's a cash machine and three supermarkets, so you don't have to arrive with everything already bought.
Mobile signal drops out sometimes. That's why we put in Starlink: indoors the wifi works anyway, for a work video call or just to say you got here.
The nearest crossing into Chile is Icalma.
Getting here
You come in on Route 13, then Route 11. The last stretch is well-kept gravel, and it's being paved right now.
In winter it's worth carrying chains just in case, and checking the state of the roads before you set off. We write to you a few days before you arrive to tell you how it looks.
In summer everything is passable and the Pehuenia Circuit opens.
